This recipe for cocoa spice snack cake is sure to elevate your mood and your palate!
Note: this recipe is adapted from one found in the cookbook Hershey’s Chocolate Treasury: A Special Collection from America’s Chocolate Authority.
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup of butter that has been melted.
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa
- ¾ cup of applesauce
- 1 ¼ cups of unsifted all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of sugar
- ¾ teaspoon of baking soda
- ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- 1 beaten egg
Directions:
- Combine the melted butter and the cocoa.
- Blend the applesauce into the melted butter and cocoa mixture.
- Combine the flour, baking soda, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt together in large mixing bowl.
- Blend the butter/cocoa/applesauce mixture and the egg into the dry mixture.
- Spread the cake batter in a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
- Bake the batter at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Allow the cocoa spice snack cake to cool in the baking pan before serving.
